“Did I get hosed?” - Yes, yes you did

Posted by Harry Orin Wood on January 25, 2007 5:33 PM

#1 Question we’re hearing: “Did I get hosed?”

#1 Answer we’re giving: “Yes, yes you did.”

Why? Because, if you’re with another e-Manifest provider, chances are you paid an unusually high setup fee. What for? Ah… we’re not sure.

We’ve had some very interested prospective clients decide to stay with their “current provider” because they already paid the setup fee.

If we’re not charging a setup fee, why not switch to Greeneye and experience the best in e-Manifest services. We’ll set you up while you’re on the phone, and “bam”, you’re submitting e-Manifests quicker and easier than ever.

ITS FREE IF YOU USE CUSTOMS PORTAL AND SOFTWARE AND NO ANNOYING PEOPLE TO TALK TO. Were any of your staff at the question and answer meeting. Customs made if very clear they will trust there software and there software only. I talked to a supt after the meeting and he said 3rd party filing is at your own risk and that they will not handle any penalties if they make the mistake. I do not believe anybody has been hosed its out there for free and everybody has been told that if they did there research before this was made manditory

Here we respond to a few comments left by an anonymous visitor.

You make a few good points:
1) Customs ACE Portal is free for setup and usage.
2) ACE Portal is totally government controlled.
3) A lot of e-Manifest providers have annoying people. ; )

To respond:
1) I have been at most of the ACE meetings, including Chicago and in Washington, DC. I'm scheduled to attend the meeting next month in Detroit. Our folks have had more ACE e-Manifest training than most local Customs Officers that you'll talk to.
2) The folks being hosed are the ones who are paying $100, $500, or $1000 in setup fees with e-Manifest providers. We don't charge those fees, neither does Customs.
3) We'd invite you to use the ACE Portal with Customs first and then try a free demo of our software. As many folks have found, you can save a lot of time and pain using our website to file e-Manifests. We can get you down to about 5 clicks in less than a minute to submit an e-Manifest. With the ACE Portal, you're going to be entering the same information over and over.
4) Finally, many of the Customs Officers at the local area have not seen nor used the ACE Portal. They're usually unaware of how time intensive it is. Customs folks at the national and regional meetings openly state that the Portal is very limited in functionality (many of whom actually designed the Portal). So, the Supervisor you spoke with seems to be in the minority within Customs as far as his/her opinion.

Thanks again for posting!

Sincerely,

Dwight
